The good news is that keeping your plantation shutters sparkling is surprisingly straightforward. With a few simple steps and the right tools, you can ensure they remain a beautiful, low-maintenance feature for years to come.

Here is your easy-to-follow guide for keeping those shutters in pristine condition.

Step 1: The Golden Rule – Dust Regularly!

The key to easy shutter maintenance is consistency. A quick, regular dusting (we recommend weekly or bi-weekly) prevents dust from building up into grime that requires scrubbing.

The Tools:

• A soft, clean microfibre cloth or dusting glove.

• A feather duster (ideally with long fibres).

• A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush or upholstery attachment.

The Technique:

1. Close the Louvres: Tilt the louvres so they are in the fully closed position. This creates a flat surface, making it much easier to dust several slats at once.

2. Wipe or Vacuum: Use your microfibre cloth or duster to gently wipe down the surface from top to bottom. If you prefer, run the soft brush attachment of your vacuum over the closed surface to quickly suck up the debris.

3. Reverse and Repeat: Tilt the louvres in the opposite direction (closed again, but facing the other way) and repeat the dusting process to clean the other side of the slats.

4. Finish the Frame: Don't forget the main frame and the window sill! Dust these areas as well.
